Artist Statements
Kathleen S. Farros
Working with stark contrasting items and juxtapositions of elements
and forms, intrigues me.
My art portrays life forces using juxtapositions of flora and fauna- many
times fish representing the journey of life with strength & vegetable
forms representing fertility and life.
I work with found art, assemblage, ceramic and bronze. Stark material
contrast of metals with ceramic are seen in my current work. Although
primarily working in sculpture -ideas are expressed in a variety of media
from drawing and printmaking to painting. One will view a 3-d element
in the paintings, attention to the 2-d surface elements in sculptures.
Social concepts and life forces are utilized in narrative approaches.
Inspiration originates from everyday idioms and situations, dreams,
mythology— used and created in a surrealistic manner.
No matter the media—the message is delivered.
Lori Franz
Lori Franz resides in Sacramento California where she is one of 18 resident
artists at The Art Studios Sacramento. Her primary media are Acrylics and
Watercolor. Having no formal art training, her expressionist style is a result of
a collaboration between her brush and her brain. She enjoys experimentation
and the creative process of her art.
Her paintings have been displayed in a solo exhibit at The Art Studios, at juried
shows at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center (receiving a judge’s award in the Go
with the Flow Exhibition). Her work was included in the 2021, 2022 and 2023
KVIE Auctions, receiving a judge’s award in figurative in 2023. She has been
selected for auction in numerous additional art charity events.
Pam Avery
Pam is an abstract painter and ceramist in Sacramento,
California. She is a resident artist at the I Street Art Studios.
Dance, music, spirituality and nature are the primary influences
that provide a foundation for bringing meaning to her artwork.
Movement and stillness such as in dance and nature provide
information for the juxtaposition of multilayered chaotic marks
over painted areas versus the smooth calm open spaces.
Intuition plays a vital role in color choice and composition
during the painting process. Walks in nature with the beauty of
water ways, old growth trees and birds flying overhead
motivate Pam to paint her interpretation of life. Pam regularly
attends figure drawing sessions and practices plein air painting
to bring a fresh approach to gestural mark making and color
relationships in her abstracts. To achieve the textural affects
she relies on tools such paint wedges, combs, china marker,
brushes, rags, palette knives and sponges.
